The Port of Iquique is located opposite the city of Iquique, capital of Tarapacá Region I, at 1857 kilometers north of Santiago de Chile. Its strategic location, allows you to be very close to countries that are part of Central Cone of South America and to provide facilities through a major exchange of goods between the area of South America and the countries comprising the so-called "Pacific Rim". Being located in what was an island, has no limitations to grow physically, because the city is not affected, as is the case with other ports in the country, which are being restricted in their physical development of the natural growth of the own cities. Furthermore it is possible with reasonable investment to expand the capacity of the docks and achieve greater water depths over 15 meters, a factor relevant to facilitate the arrival of larger ships (Panamax and Post Panamax) to Iquique. The port has about 20 acres. warm water is formed by the former Serrano Island that forms the basis of a molo connection to land and shelter of 846m in length in the direction 028 °.
